'How Prince Harry proposed to me' - Meghan Markle reveals

Actress Meghan Markle will be the first American to marry a British royal since the marriage of Wallis Simpson to King Edward VIII, a union so controversial that he was forced to give up the throne in December 1936 to go through with it.

In their first joint interview since they announced their engagement today, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spoke to BBC moments ago and they revealed how the engagement proposal happened.

According to them, it was a “cosy night” at their shared cottage on the Kensington Palace “I think I managed to catch her by surprise,” the prince said. “It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got down on one knee” Markle added.

The two revealed that they started dating in July after they were set up on a “blind date” by a female friend. “I’d never watched ‘Suits,’” Harry said of his thoughts before that first date. “I’d never heard of Meghan before.”

Markle said she only had a distant familiarity with the royals at the time, and had just one question before the date: “Is he nice?”

They said they hit it off and really got to know each other a few months later, when Harry invited Markle to visit Botswana with him. “We camped out with each other under the stars,” Harry said.

Markle said the long-distance courtship was a challenge, as was the sudden media spotlight that came with publicly dating a prince. She says she tried to avoid the headlines, including criticism over her ethnicity.

“It’s a shame that that is the climate in this world, to focus that much on that. At the end of the day I’m really just proud of who I am and where I come from" Markle said.

First lady, Melania Trump has unveiled the 2017 White House holiday decorations which she personally designed.

This year, over 150 volunteers from 29 states spent more than 1,600 hours setting up spaces from the East Wing, which houses the Gold Star Family Tree, to the China Room, where the Reagan china has been set out in a display of traditional Christmas dinner.

In the library, Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1866 edition of "A Christmas Carol" holds court, and in the grand foyer of the State Floor, there's a tribute to the very first themed White House Christmas, "Nutcracker Suite," started by Jacqueline Kennedy in 1961.

According to the White House, by the time December is over, an estimated 25,000 people will have toured the decorations.

The organisers of Cambridge University 's 'Best Bum' competition has crowned its winner for the year 2017.

Vita, a law undergraduate was crowned the winner of the annual competition run by The Tab student newspaper after a picture of her naked and leaning against an oak tree at Homerton College scooped 24.32% of the votes.

The law undergraduate, who described her winning as a victory for "body acceptance" says she's more proud of her victory than she was of winning her college place.

Vita said: "I don't have the most athletic figure and I have quite a considerable bottom and thighs.It says a lot about how far the world has come in body acceptance.

"I have worked hard to accept my body. I wanted to prove that to myself by doing something I wouldn't usually do.I didn't even expect the photo would be in the Top 10 - let alone be the winner.'

"I've never been so proud of something like that. I'm probably more proud of that than getting into Cambridge."

Vita, who is studying at Gonville and Caius, told the Cambridge News she only decided to enter the competition when her friend - a professional photographer asked her the night before

She said: "During the shoot, it was so cold and my feet were wet. You can't notice in the photo but the photos were taken near a football pitch during a football match.I don't think they saw us - we would have noticed if they had noticed us.'

She added: "When I told my mum, I was really worried because she's quite conservative but she thought it was hilarious. She even showed the photo to my old teachers and they thought it was hilarious too." 

According to the organisers, the competition called for "every type of tush - all shapes and sizes" to be submitted, adding: "At the end of the day, bums are just bums. We're not looking for glamour shots, just a lovely, creatively taken photo of your bottom.
